The aim of painting the road surface blue is to reduce the surface temperature of the road. The light blue colour reflects sunlight better than traditional black, thereby reducing heat absorption and lowering the temperature of the road surface in hot urban environments.
In Doha, the trial is part of Qatar’s efforts to cope with extreme heat, especially as the country prepares for major events such as the 2022 World Cup.
