The on-again, off-again, nearly eight-year romance between Johnson and the Coldplay frontman has reportedly reached its definitive end.
News of the couple’s separation broke in people magazine just hours after the Fifty Shades of Grey actress hinted at the breakup in an interview with the Los Angeles Times .
The 35-year-old was discussing her new film, Materialists, in which she plays a New York City matchmaker torn between a new potential love (Pedro Pascal) and a messy ex (Chris Evans).
When asked what made her role in the film “feel different for her,” Johnson replied: “The complexities of all of the characters. The paradox. Everyone being confused about what the f*** they’re supposed to do with their hearts and what’s the right move. I found that very honest, and I found it just so relatable.”She continued: “For a long time, we’ve all been so quick to judge relationships or how they should happen, how they should exist in the world, when people should get married, divorce is bad. All these things that actually, if you think about it, why is divorce bad? Why do people have to get married or at a certain age, or only once? Why? It doesn’t matter.”
Following the reports of the couple’s split, the Madame Web actress is now setting clear boundaries for her future dating life. Her top non-negotiable? A firm “no a***oles” policy.
Johnson made the candid declaration during an appearance on the Today show, alongside her co-star Chris Evans.
When host Craig Melvin asked the pair about their dating “non-negotiables” if they were to engage with a matchmaker, the 43-year-old Marvels star first quipped that his prospective partner “must love dogs”.
Johnson then delivered her scathing and unfiltered response. “Like, not an a**hole,” she blurted out, eliciting immediate laughter from both the studio audience and the crew on set.
“That’s concise,” Evans remarked with a chuckle, adding: “There it is! Nail on the head.”

Despite the breakup, Martin has publicly demonstrated his continued support for his former flame.
A concertgoer named Jasmin shared tiktok footage from a recent Coldplay concert in Las Vegas on Friday, June 6.
In the video, which has since garnered over a million views, the ‘Parachutes’ icon concluded the show by earnestly addressing the massive crowd. “Thank you, everybody! Be kind to each other!” Martin said into the mic.
He then added a notable plug for Johnson’s forthcoming film: “Don’t forget to go see Materialists!”
Materialists, directed by Celine Song, will premiere in theatres on June 13.
