Brad Pitt has made a surprising comment about family after reportedly cutting ties with his two adopted sons.
The 61-year-old actor, who shares Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne with Angelina Jolie, reflected on his personal growth during an appearance at the F1 premiere in Mexico City.
“No matter the mistake, you just learn from [it] and move on,” he told ET. “It’ll lead to the next success.”
Pitt added, “When you get to my age, you realize how important it is to surround yourself with the people you love, the people that love you back. Friends, family, and that’s it. From there, we get to go make things. It’s a pretty simple, I think, equation.”
But that message of familial love comes as his relationships with several of his children allegedly remain broken.
Following years of legal battles after Jolie, 50, filed for divorce in 2016, just days after an alleged altercation on a private plane, the couple’s spilt was finalized in december 2024 .
The fallout has been stark, with the Fight Club star reportedly believing his bonds with Pax and Maddox are now “unfixable”.
A source told Daily Mail, Pitt has “zero concern” over Pax’s behavior after he was seen stumbling out of Chateau Marmont. “Brad honestly considers his relationship with Pax unfixable,” the insider said.
“Pax and Maddox have made it abundantly clear how they feel, and Brad has nothing to say about either of them,” they added.
While Pitt reportedly still hopes for reconciliation with his other children, a source close to Jolie pushed back: “Brad continues to play the victim. His fractured relationship with his children is a direct result of how he has treated them.”
That strain has become increasingly visible as Pitt’s daughter,Shiloh field legal documents to drop the pitt surname on her 18th birthday and is now officially known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.
She recently used the name “Shi” in a choreography credit at a fashion event, marking a public step in redefining her identity.
Her sister vivienne, too, has adopted the last name Jolie professionally, appearing in Playbill as “Vivienne Jolie” while working on The Outsiders on Broadway.
Meanwhile, Pitt has been keeping a low profile with girlfriend ines de ramon.
The pair made their public debut at the British Grand Prix in July 2024, and Pitt recently dismissed speculation that their appearance was part of a promotional push for his Formula 1 film.
“No, dude, it’s not that calculated,” he told GQ. “Life just evolves. Relationships evolve.”
Asked if he felt relief after his divorce from Jolie was finalized, Pitt downplayed the moment: “No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”
As his children move forward, some publicly shedding the Pitt name, the Troy actor’s comments suggest he’s beginning to look inward.
