People are becoming obsessed with a hot new bedroom trend called ‘JOI.‘
There’s a kink that’s quietly reshaping the adult content landscape, even if it flies under the radar for most casual viewers.
Known as ‘JOI,’ this niche fetish has surged in popularity, especially on platforms like OFs.
Although its name might evoke images of awkward health class videos, ‘JOI’ has evolved into one of the fastest-growing and most profitable categories in online adult entertainment.

At its core, ‘JOI’ involves a performer, typically attractive and charismatic, looking directly at the viewer and offering detailed guidance on how to pleasure themselves.
While it may sound simple, those within the industry argue it’s anything but basic.
MelRose Michaels, founder of S** Work CEO and an experienced adult content creator, said in an interview with Vice: “‘JOI’ to me is an erotic performance style where the speaker, through voice, video, or text, guides the viewer or listener through the act of m**turbation.
“It blends control, seduction, dominance, and emotional connection all at once.”
Recent statistics from Clips4Sale illustrate the booming demand for ‘JOI’ content.
Since 2022, sales in the United States alone have increased by 186 percent. International markets show similar enthusiasm, with Germany reporting a staggering 208 percent rise and Australia a notable 48 percent.
The kink has now secured its place among the top 100 adult content categories worldwide.

Avery Martin, a representative from Clips4Sale, explains that while the practice of guided m**urbation (or ‘j*** off instruction’) has long existed under different names, such as ‘m**turbation encouragement,’ ‘JOI’ has become a distinct fetish largely due to the rise of digital creator culture.
“It’s a direct connection between the fan and the creators,” Martin said. “And since the pandemic, interest has surged across the board.”
One of the key appeals of ‘JOI’ is its emphasis on emotional and psychological intimacy rather than physical acts.
Performers don’t need to engage in explicit s** on camera; instead, they foster a sense of closeness and exclusivity.
Michaels added: “‘JOI’ taps into more than just arousal. It fulfills the need to feel wanted, controlled, praised… or denied.
“It creates a fantasy where they’re not just ‘another viewer’… Instead, they’re ‘the’ viewer.”

For creators like MissWaltrude, a European fetish artist and hypnokink practitioner, ‘JOI’ becomes a layered, trance-like journey.
“’JOI,’ to me, is a m**turbatory trance experience with multiple layers,” she shared. “It’s about taking control of another person’s erotic energy, layer by layer.”
She believes the appeal extends beyond eroticism.
“’JOI’ gives permission,” she said. “It lets someone safely confess, ‘Hey, this turns me on,’ and then be commanded to dive deeper. Obedience is pleasure – and there’s great pleasure to be found in obedience.”
