The 1983 American crime drama, directed by Brian De Palma, is a remake of the 1932 film, which in turn is based on the 1930 novel by Armitage Trial.
It follows Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino) who arrives in Miami during the Mariel boatlift and becomes a powerful drug lord.
The film, which had a box office of $66 million worldwide, was a commercial success, although its initial response was lukewarm from critics.
Fans of the movies are now devastated to learn that one of its stars has passed away.

One fan writes: “So memorable in Scarface and so many other roles.”
Another says: “We lost such an icon today.”
“One of the most underrated actors of all time,” declares a third. “Rest in paradise.”
Somebody else pens: “A presence you recognize from a hundred different places, even if you never knew his name. RIP.”

Harris Yulin, who played the role of corrupt Miami police detective Mel Bernstein, has died at age 88, his family has announced.

“His marriage of immense technique with an always fresh sense of discovery gave his work an immediacy and vitality and purity I’ve experienced nowhere else. And what he was as an actor, he was as a man, the grace, the humility, the generosity.
“All of us at American Classic have been blessed by our experience with him. He will always remain the beating heart of our show.”
