Carol and Mark Benson, owners of the former Ebberston Station at Allerston, near Pickering, North Yorkshire. The couple have lived at 'The Old Station' as it's now called for over 30 years, during this time they have become guardians of a heritage building which has recently been awarded a Blue Plaque for restoration work which has been carried out on the property. The award was presented by Peter, Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill, the Minister of State for Rail at the National Railway Heritage Awards at The Merchant Taylors Hall in London. Ebberston Station was on the Forge Valley line between Pickering and Scarborough and closed down in 1950. The station in North Yorkshire near Pickering is now used as a holiday destination with self catering railway carriages and Ticket Office cottage. Picture: James Hardisty. Date: 11th December 2025. A train mad couple have spent the last 30 years restoring an old railway station to its former glory.Mark, 67, and Carol Benson, 66, have spent tens of thousands of pounds transforming Ebbertson Station near Scarborough, North Yorkshire.The line closed in 1950 before it later became a private home for 40 years until 1996 when the couple bought it for £112,500.And thanks to their hard work over the last three decades tourists can now once again visit the station - now called The Old Station - and its adjacent train yard as it looked in the 1940s.

The Ebberston Station in Allerston, England, closed in 1950, and was purchased in 1996 by train-loving couple Mark and Carol Benson. Now, 30 years and tens of thousands of dollars later, the historical station has been returned to its former glory.
